Job Responsibilities:
The Cybersecurity Technical Editor / Writer will assist the Department of Energy (DOE) in monitoring and assessing the Department's compliance with Federal Information Security Modernization Act (FISMA) implementation requirements. This position will produce, review, revise, and maintain technical documents in support of the assessment process. In addition, this position will interact with DOE personnel ranging from highly-skilled experts to senior-level managers as part of document consultations. Some travel may be required.

The DOE has one of the most diverse sets of missions of any Government agency, ranging from energy production and distribution, to cutting-edge science, to protecting the US nuclear stockpile. As a result, our team members must have a wide range of skills, be flexible, adapt to different environments with each assessment, and be completely professional in all we do.

Other duties and responsibilities:
  • Create new and update existing documentation, including SOPs, requirements, process flows, and use cases.
  • Oversee, evaluate, edit, and support documentation processes necessary to assure a mature, validated, and robust documentation repository consistent with the customer's Cybersecurity mission.
  • Work closely with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), assessment teams, and other stakeholders to create and maintain high quality documentation, including formal reports, executive-level briefings, whitepapers, and training plans.
  • Other duties as specified by management.
Required Experience and Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience as a technical writer, editor, or quality assurance technician.
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to develop and edit technical reports, briefings, and presentations for a variety of audiences, including senior managers.
  • Ability to review cyber security documentation and translate technical information into written format using plain language.
  • Understanding of the basic concepts, including basic grammar concepts, applicable to technical writing copy for various types of documents.
  • Effective Microsoft Office skills, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Project, and Excel.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal communications skills and experience in coordinating report production, including interface with assessment personnel and administrative support personnel.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member and as a team leader.
  • A positive and professional attitude within a challenging environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively balance and manage multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated experience in handling and managing classified or other sensitive information.
  • U.S. citizen with the ability to gain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.
  • Self-starter who can work successfully with limit supervision.
