MORI Associates is seeking a Science Technical Writer-Editor to develop engaging and accurate feature stories, blog posts, and multimedia scripts for Goddard Office of Communications in support of the NASA Enterprise Multimedia and Integrated Technical Services (eMITS) contract. eMITS is the Agency's enterprise-level contract creating and delivering multimedia and technical communications through the use of the internet, digital platforms, and IT management for NASA's Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) and Office of Communications (OCOMM). From photographing rocket launches and recoveries, to producing NASA TV segments, to information technology management, to using social media to share NASA's message, eMITS integrates services for NASA IT and provides NASA's communication to the outside world. Job Description / Functional Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will translate complicated science into compelling blog posts, video scripts, podcast scripts, news releases, feature articles, social media content, web copy, and will have a keen eye for copy-editing products. The right individual will help us expand our communication capabilities providing solid journalistic storytelling ability with the capacity to create engaging, creative online content. A high level of creativity and solid editorial judgement, combined with the ability to distill complex concepts and data into absorbing content is required for this position.

The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities:

  • Content Creation: Develop engaging and accurate news and feature stories, blog posts, and scripts for multimedia products, ensuring they are tailored to specific audiences and platforms.
  • Collaboration with Social Media Team: Work closely with the Heliophysics and Goddard social media teams to craft and schedule content that highlights key research and developments in the field.
  • Media Coordination: Assist in organizing press events and media workshops, helping to ensure that these events effectively communicate heliophysics research and discoveries to the media and public.
  • Research and Reporting: Conduct thorough research on heliophysics topics, staying abreast of the latest findings and trends to inform writing and content creation.
  • Response to media inquiries: Respond to queries from the news media and the public, providing clear and accurate information about heliophysics research and missions.
  • Team Support: Provide support to senior science writers and communication team members, contributing to larger projects and initiatives as needed.

Remote, hybrid, and onsite positions the employee bears travel costs to nearest NASA Center for badging and issue of NASA IT equipment.


Minimum Requirements:

  • 4-year degree in Science Communications and/or Technical Writing and Editing.
  • 2 years of professional Experience as a Science/Technical writer.
  • Experience crafting feature stories on complex topics and making them engaging for general audiences.
  • Knowledge of Social Media content best practices, including copy writing.
  • The successful candidate must be detail-oriented, collaborative, and committed to meeting tight deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Lync, Teams, OneNote, One Drive), SharePoint, and Box.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preference will be given to those with previous NASA or Government writing experience as well as a strong writing portfolio, bachelor's degree and relevant work experience.
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite
  • Track record of producing pieces that increase engagement, creating successful social media strategies


Salary Range: $63K to 78K, based on experience.
