Product Manager SAE Books

Defines and builds new book features, content types, and product areas as part of SAE Books’ industry-centered product team. Strong understanding of markets, mobility technology, and book publishing, plus a passion for being the voice of the customer, user and professions served in the product creation and management process. Contributes to product positioning, messaging, introduction, maintenance, and/or obsolescence of features, media or delivery types, products, and services. This person should be well organized, able to set schedules and timelines, able to work cooperatively with others and to take direction, communicate well with authors and colleagues and able to compile data from our systems.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manages freelance development editors, works with authors at the conceptual stage through the final manuscript, establishes book schedules and budgets to ensure all books publish on time and under budget, prepare all marketing copy for catalogs, covers, and flyers. Maintains active partnership with Sales and Marketing on behalf of all SAE Books.
Works with the Publisher to define new book features, content and product areas and implement those. Drives successful tradeoffs that affect cost, schedule, users, and how well the product works throughout the product life cycle. Provides product leadership from introduction through obsolescence, evaluates new technologies, articulates issues, and makes clear recommendations. Makes product positioning recommendations to management and counterparts.
Drives and participates in user-experience research to identify obstacles, improve ease-of-use and customer satisfaction. Articulates research findings to management in order to impact future product direction. Creates and delivers formal presentations and conducts group discussions on products for a broad range of audiences. Helps develop and review public relations and marketing communications materials such as collateral, press releases, and data sheets.
Continually reviews product usage data and maintains an ongoing dialog with customers and internal stakeholders, particularly sales, on trends, risks and opportunities.
Contributing to the achievement of SAE’s organizational goals. Additional projects as assigned.
EDUCATION:
Bachelors degree Field(s): English, Humanities, Marketing or related field with relevant STEM experience.
EXPERIENCE:
* Five or more years in publishing.
* User experience-centered (UX) product development experience.
* Product Management experience.
